As artists we are often inspired by place and the incredible landscape that surrounds us. Beautiful rolling hills, dramatic seascapes, the textures and colours of where we come from gives endless inspiration to artists who weave. Surrounded by water, with over 6000 miles of coastline, Scotland has more than 790 islands and over 30,000 lochs and lochans and almost 500 Munroes and Corbetts. How could we not be inspired by what is around us!
Regional members of the BTG have taken the joint theme of weaving water/woven land and have interpreted this in a variety of different techniques. From realistic interpretation of the coastline to concerns over land use and environmental issues, changing seasons within the landscape, mapping coastlines and waterways along with emotional and spiritual places where land meets water are imagined in a variety of materials and weaving styles.
The Scottish region has members who also live in Cumbria and the Isle of Man. As well as members on mainland Scotland we have international members who associate themselves as Scottish regional members. We are an inclusive, far ranging and talented group of weavers.
